Hey guys! TGIF. As you know, Steph and I recently canceled our cable and have been on a major streaming kick lately. Earlier in the week, we showed you our Roku Streaming Stick. This evening a package arrived here at The Nerd Garden. Yes! It is what you think it is. The brand-new, Amazon Fire TV Stick.
We want to put this out there right away. We didn’t receive this device for review. Also, we intentionally avoided researching the Fire TV Stick too much. What you’re going to get in this video captures our initial reaction and it’s mostly uncensored. We say mostly because our dogs bark and our kids whine. You get the idea.

Our thoughts…
Pros
- Initially the user interface is a nice design. It’s much more user-centric than Roku. Even the registration process was already completed for us.
- The video playback is super-smooth.
- The remote control is extremely responsive.
- There seem to be many more options, as well as paid services.
- Ability to add on Apps, such as Kodi and Plex.
- The 1-month Sling TV trial and $10 Amazon video great for purchasing in October are a nice perk.
- The voice search is a really nice feature.
Cons
- Actual device design is awkward. We needed to use the dongle because of the size of the device-it wouldn’t fit into the jack.
- The two-month HULU perk is available to all those signing up with a new account. It’s not really an incentive.
We’ve only really played around with our new gadget for about an hour or so, but overall, we are very excited. Stay tuned! I’m sure we’ll have more to share in the coming months. See you next time at The Nerd Garden.
